CBCT - Cone Beam Computed Tomography

 3-D X-Ray -- Decreases Surgical Risks

The Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) we have is a specialized dental x-ray technology. We use it to see the 3-D shape of wisdom teeth whose roots have more curves than other teeth. Why? The space they have to grow in is much smaller & tighter, which causes the roots to bend.

We also want to know when a nerve is touching the root of the tooth to be removed.
It is invaluable, as well, for placing dental implants more safely and accurately.

It's all about reducing risks to you or your loved one!

Frequently Asked Questions

When's Best to Have Wisdom Teeth Out?

With over 30 years experience to prove it, THE BEST time for wisdom teeth removal is before the roots finish growing, before age 20 when bone has hardened to the adult stage, and before problems start (usually infection).

If you miss these stages, surgical risks, difficulty and complications increase.

PARENTS: For the best result for your son / daughter, don't ignore this timing.

Do You Take Insurance?

Many, but not at all.  Sorry, we do NOT take HMO's, or Medicaid.

If you wish to use your insurance, we will need BOTH your Dental & Medical insurance information 4 business days prior to your consultation appointment.

Since verifying insurance is time-consuming, thus costly, we will ask for a deposit to provide you this service and cover other costs if you fail to show.

When is a CT Necessary For Wisdom Teeth?

As a minimum we will need a recent, good quality panoramic x-ray. We prefer to take our own, when possible, to ensure we get the quality we need.

Once the wisdom tooth roots have finished growing, there is greater need for a CT to evaluate how close the lower wisdom tooth roots are to the lower jaw nerve and to look for curvature in the roots. There can also be extra roots that do not show on the 2-D panoramic x-ray that will show on the 3-D CT x-ray. It's also necessary when pathology is visible around a wisdom tooth.

What is the Recovery Time For Wisdom Teeth?

NEVER have we seen a teen recover slower than an adult having the same procedure performed. Teens can often recover over just a weekend.

Patients older than 20 years of age, however, can expect 1 - 2 additional days for recovery, if not more in difficult cases. EVERYTHING slows with age.

Waiting until problems (infection) adds yet another week (or more) of discomfort while waiting to clear the infection with antibiotics - before surgery can be done. For convenience of scheduling, it doesn't pay to wait for problems.
